Elkin is located in the heart of the beautiful Yadkin wine growing region and is in a unique location to be a hub for local trails. We are in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than half an hour from Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are at the confluence of the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Yadkin River Trail Blueway, and the beginnings of our big project, the E&A Rail-Trail, which will ultimately be the Mountains-to-Sea Trail between Stone Mountain State Park and Elkin/Jonesville and Pilot Mountain State Park. We have easy, moderate, and intermediate trails in our area. We love the trails in Elkin, and we are known as a “Trail Town.”

RIVER OUTFITTERS
HRC is your premier destination for Yadkin River Kayak & Tube rentals! You will begin your journey at the HRC base camp found in the heart of the Yadkin Valley. We are easily accessible and a top search for kayak rentals near me. Just a short distance from Mt. Airy, Winston-Salem, Yadkinville, Wilkesboro, Statesville and beyond. We are located just minutes off of Interstate 77 and Exit 82. Our address is 474 North Bridge Street Jonesville, NC 28642. While you wait you can enjoy the trails, games, beautiful views and picnic areas until your scheduled departure time. When it's your turn for adventure you will board the River Bus and set out on the journey to the drop off site. We do all the heavy lifting so you can have all the fun! Come to Jonesville Kayak and Tube the Yadkin River!
Trips available from Kerr Scott Tail Waters to Mitchell's River
We are just minutes outside downtown Elkin off Highway 268 on the Yadkin River. Paddling trips are offered through Wilkes, Surry & Yadkin Counties. Shuttle service is offered for those who have their own kayaks.

PARKS
The Elkin Municipal Park is a 25 acre multi-function recreation space that includes lighted tennis courts, scenic walking track, children's playground, swimming pool, athletic fields, nature trail, picnic shelters, and band shell. It is a bustling park that plays host to countless athletic contests, private functions, and special events throughout the year.
Chatham Park, located across from the old Vaughan Bassett furniture factory, features two baseball/softball fields and several multi-use/soccer fields. It is home to the Elkin Middle School Baseball and Softball teams and hosts many youth baseball, softball, and soccer practices and games.
Restrooms and picnic shelter nearby. Elkin Recreation & Parks Department leagues and games have precedence over rentals and tournaments.
Crater Park
Located along the Yadkin River, Crater park features a baseball/softball field, multi-use fields, river access with boat ramp, restrooms, and primitive camping. It is the home field for Elkin High School softball and serves as the practice facility for Jr. Elks Youth Football.
Primitive Camping: Campers should call ahead to Elkin Recreation and Parks (336.794.6478) to insure that bathroom facilities are unlocked.
Carter Falls
Hidden from the public until 2018, Carter Falls is now available for everyone to view thanks to a public-private partnership. Carter Falls is accessible by a 0.5-mile trail (one way) from a parking area on Pleasant Ridge Road near Byrd's Branch Campground.

The massive granite dome at Stone Mountain State Park keeps watch on park visitors enjoying nearly every type of outdoor activity – camping, hiking, climbing, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding and more. There are more than 18 miles of trails, matched by more than 20 miles of designated trout waters in this park that spreads below the Blue Ridge Parkway. A campground offers 90 sites, some with utility hookups, and group and backpacking campsites are nearby. Rock climbing is allowed by permit on the towering, 600-foot granite face of the landmark mountain, and climbers look down on Hutchinson Homestead, a restored mid-19th century mountain farm. Expansive picnic grounds with shelters invite reunions and community gatherings.
Pilot Mountain State Park is a popular destination for canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, picnicking, and rock climbing. The two-mile portion of the Yadkin River that flows through the park is one of the most scenic stretches along the river's course. The segment is part of the 165-mile Yadkin River Canoe Trail which follows the course of the river, passing through five reservoirs to the confluence of the Yadkin and Uwharrie rivers. Canoe rentals are not available at the park.
