As we prepare for the upcoming school year, with all the 'Back to School' shopping deals and after-school activity planning, and get ready to send our kids back to their eight-hour school days, here are a few ways to make the most of the final days of summer with your children.
Go for a Dip!
The Elkin Municipal Pool is still open! Everyday from 1pm - 5pm! Or head down to the Yadkin Valley River and float or kayak with North Carolina River Riders. A day in the sun, with water to keep you cool, is a great way to spend those last Summer days.
Catch a Matinee
Wanting an air conditioned option? Starmount Cinema has 1:00pm matinees most days! Harold and the Purple Crayon, Despicable Me 4, and Twisters are all playing and kid friendly!
Ice Cream Crawl
Take the family on an ice cream crawl, and have the kids rank their favorites! Creamy Dayz at River & Trails Emporium, Speedy Chef, Los Mumchies, The Twisted Squirrel, and if you’re willing to drive a little further, the Stone Mountain Country Store has ice cream AND hiking!
Paint n Take Night
There are plenty of fun things to do and games to play at Unity Tabletop Gaming. Every Wednesday, they have a Paint n Take Night starting at 6pm. A mini is $5 and $25 for the kit.
Food Truck Friday
We’ve got one more Food Truck Friday before school starts back. Come to the Farmer's Market Shelter between 11am - 8pm on Friday, August 9th for Food Trucks and to hear music by Michael Chaney starting at 5pm.
Get Spooky
Meet at the heArt & Soul of the Yadkin Valley Gallery at 6:30 PM Friday, August 12th for this easy guided hike along the downtown Elkin section of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Hear about local, creepy happenings with the chance to enjoy a little local flavor during rest stops along the way.
Whether you stay indoors or get outside, make the most of the last days of Summer and create family memories as we head into the 2024 Fall school year.
