Finding Home in an Unexpected Place

Some people spend years searching for the place that feels like home. For Celeste Snow, it found her when she least expected it.

A visit to Elkin during the COVID pandemic was supposed to be temporary. Her wife, Christy, had grown up here, and the trip was simply a chance to spend time in a familiar place. What Celeste didn't expect was how quickly she would fall in love with the community.

"We had never planned to stay or move to a rural area," she says. "But we quickly and completely fell in love. This place has a way of doing that to people." 

Today, Celeste and her family have put down deep roots in Elkin. She serves clients across North Carolina as a realtor with Golden Key Realty, shares her passion for the region through her project Yadkin Valley Magic, and stays actively involved in organizations that strengthen the community she now calls home.

Discovering the Magic in Everyday Moments

For Celeste, Elkin's appeal isn't found in any one attraction. It's found in the everyday moments.

A dinner at Embers. A show at The Reeves Theater. Coffee downtown. An afternoon spent browsing thrift stores. Ice cream with her daughters at Creamy Dayz. Time at The Railyard where neighbors linger and conversations stretch a little longer than expected. 

Some of her favorite memories happen outdoors.

Trail walks with her youngest daughter often turn into adventures, stopping to admire wildflowers, waterfalls, mushrooms, and every small wonder along the way.

"She believes every mushroom is a treasure," Celeste says. 

Those moments reflect what Celeste loves most about life here. Elkin feels both rooted and adventurous at the same time.

"It is wild and welcoming at the same time," she says. "You can feel deeply rooted here while still feeling like you're on an adventure every single day." 

A Community That Shows Up

That sense of belonging is something Celeste sees throughout the community. Whether celebrating at local festivals, supporting small businesses, or helping neighbors through difficult times, people in Elkin genuinely care about one another.

"It is the kind of town where people still mean it when they ask how you're doing," she says. "There is a realness here that is hard to find and even harder to leave." 

One of her favorite things about Elkin is how quickly people rally around one another when needed.

"People here do not wait to be asked. They just show up," she says. 

That spirit of generosity is part of what transformed a former visitor into a lifelong advocate for the community.

Showing Up for the Place You Love

Community involvement is a big part of how Celeste gives back. In addition to her work as a realtor, she serves as an Ambassador for the Yadkin Valley Chamber of Commerce, is Vice President of the local PFLAG board, and continually looks for ways to connect people with the places, businesses, and experiences that make the Yadkin Valley special. 

She believes communities thrive when people choose to invest their time, energy, and hearts into them.

"A town is only as alive as the people who invest in it," she says. 

For Celeste, showing up isn't just something residents do. It's what makes Elkin the place it is.

Elkin in One Word

When asked what makes Elkin a great place to live, Celeste points to the opportunity, the natural beauty, and the people who continually invest in the community's future. It's a place where families can build meaningful lives while staying connected to the land and to one another. 

And if she had to describe Elkin in a single word?

"Magic." 

After talking with Celeste, it's easy to understand why.

Sometimes the most remarkable thing about a place isn't a landmark or an event. It's the way it makes people feel. For Celeste, Elkin became the answer to a question she didn't know she was asking. And like so many others who find their way here, she discovered something worth staying for.
