Trout Fishing

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission has stocked Elkin Creek with hatchery-raised trout.  These trout provide local residents with fishing opportunities.  Anglers can harvest a maximum of seven trout per day, with no minimum size limits or bait restrictions. Trout released into the Elkin Creek was noted to be more than 14-inches long at the time of their release into the creek. 

North Carolina hatcheries raise more than a half-million brook, brown and rainbow trout annually for release into North Carolina’s more than 1,000 miles of hatchery-supported public waters.  In addition to trout, the stream is stock monthly from May until September with channel catfish. 

Look for the Hatchery Supported signs along the trail, and in the future, Catch and Release signs:
