There's something unmistakably special about the holiday season in a small town. The kind of magic that doesn't come from big city lights, but from the soft glow of storefront windows, the sound of carols drifting down Main Street, and the familiar faces full of holiday cheer that make up the heart of the community. In Elkin, the season feels a bit slower, a little sweeter, and a lot more meaningful. The lights twinkle, the festive gatherings shine, and the warmth of our neighbors coming together reminds us of one of the many the reasons for the season: community.

The Start of the Season: Light Up Elkin

There's no better way to kick off the holiday season in Elkin than with Light Up night. Light Up Elkin is a cherished annual tradition that transforms downtown into our very own twinkling wonderland.
On Friday, December 5th, from 5-9 PM, Main Street comes alive with music, laughter, and holiday spirit to kick off the season right. Families gather beneath the lights, children sip hot cocoa and wait for the Christmas train whistles to blow, and local shops stay open for a night of festive cheer. This celebration embraces the unmistakable feeling that Christmas has arrive in the heart of our small town.
Celebrations capture everything we love about living local. As the lights begin to dim, the holiday momentum carries on with beloved community favorites like the Holly Jolly Marketplace, Foothills Makers Market, the Winter Farmers Market, and the Yadkin Valley Christmas Parade- each adds its own touch of magic to the season.
Seasonal Sounds & Holiday Gatherings

Here in Elkin, the holiday season doesn't just sparkle, it sings. With the first notes of Christmas classics echoing down Main Street, orchestral tributes, energetic remixes and renditions, and the sounds of hometown musicians sharing their favorite tunes, music is woven into the magic and the reason for the season. No one captures that magic quite like The Reeves Theater.
All season long, The Reeves lights up downtown with the kind of live performances that make you want to slow down, sip something warm, and stay awhile. Whether it’s a holiday concert that fills the room with nostalgia or a local favorite returning to the stage for a festive set, the Reeves has a way of bringing people together: neighbors, friends, and families, all under one roof to celebrate the simple joy of good music and community connection.
A Small Town that Glows
When winter settles over the foothills, Elkin seems to shine a little brighter. Hand-painted signs, handmade wreaths, festive displays, and handcrafted reindeer grazing in the grass all come together to remind us why this town feels so special this time of year.
There’s a sense of togetherness that you can’t quite put into words. Our neighbors and friends pausing to chat on Main Street, families stopping for cocoa after the tree lighting, and the simple joy of watching the town transform into a Hallmark-worthy holiday scene. As you stroll past the Reeves marquee at night or drive down Main Street beneath the soft glow of decorations, there’s no mistaking it: Elkin truly is a small town that glows.
Shop Small for the Holidays
There’s something meaningful about shopping in a place where the person behind the counter knows your name. In Elkin, holiday shopping feels personal. Every storefront tells a story, and every purchase supports a neighbor, a dream, or a family that calls this town home.

Our local shops open their doors with a kind of joy you can feel. Handcrafted gifts, cozy winter finds, and one-of-a-kind treasures line the shelves. It’s not about rushing through a list. It’s about taking your time, enjoying the lights, and finding gifts that matter.
When you choose to shop small, you give twice: once to the person receiving your gift and again to the community that makes Elkin shine during the holidays.
A Community Wrapped in Holiday Spirit
Christmas in Elkin feels like stepping into a story that’s still being written. A story filled with lights, laughter, and the quiet kind of joy that lingers long after the season ends. It’s in the glow of Main Street, the sound of a familiar song at the Reeves, and the neighborly wave from someone carrying a bag of local finds. Around here, the holidays aren’t just about celebration. They’re about connection, community, and the shared pride of calling this small town home.
This story was made possible by The Reeves Theater, a cornerstone of Elkin’s live music and community spirit.
