Where to Stay

Elkin has overnight accommodation options for every group! Looking for a hotel-like stay in historic downtown Elkin? Three Trails has a rooftop patio and kitchenettes that makes this spot convenient and comfortable for groups. Want a more secluded getaway? Klondike Cabins offers five cabins walking distance to the Grassy Creek Vineyard & Winery Tasting Room and surrounding hiking trails that are charming and rustic. Elkin Creek and Frog Holler offer creekside sanctuary, or for a quaint Bed & Breakfast experience, check out Six28 House

Whether you’re looking for an escape into nature or a walkable studio, Elkin has over thirty different lodging options in addition to self-managed AirBnb and VRBO listings. So no matter what kind of getaway you are planning, we’ve got you covered.

What to Do

Hiking, Biking, and Outdoor Recreation

Our location in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and proximity to Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway means we come by our designation as a “trail town” honestly. We are at the confluence of the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Yadkin River Trail Blueway, and the Mountains-to-Sea trails. We have trails for all levels and all seasons, some that even end at wineries and waterfalls! For a look at all the area’s hiking trails, visit Elkin Valley Trails Association or our curated list on AllTrails

The Elkin Municipal Park has first-come, first-serve tennis courts and our community recently added four pickleball courts at Crater Park, two blocks off historic Downtown Elkin!

Coming in the warmer months? The Yadkin River is a paddler's dream. Whether you're kayaking, canoeing, or floating, the river offers an easygoing way to spend a sunny day and see Elkin from the water.

Pampering

The White Rose Beauty Studio in downtown Elkin is a charming collective of independent stylist offering services from lashes to massages and all your hair needs in between! This mid-century modern, inviting studio is a recent addition to downtown Elkin and we are LOVING having great estheticians and hair care professionals right down the street.

Vineyard & Wineries

There are truly too many to list and new ones popping up all the time, but the plethora of vineyards and wineries in the Yadkin Valley region is a large draw for groups and getaways.

The Surry County Wine Trail alone has 18 stops, many with live music, games, and food.

Companies like the Elkin Vine Line can help transport you along their recommended route so you can enjoy the experience. Or our friends at Explore More NC did a thorough review of the local wineries that you can check out!

Live Music

The local music scene in Elkin is rich. Many of the local Tasting Rooms and restaurants have live music on weekends and our very own, restored Reeves Theater is constantly bringing live entertainment to downtown Elkin.

Where to Eat

Get Dressed Up

For an elevated night out in Elkin, downtown delivers with a mix of great food and atmosphere. Side Door Café, located inside the historic Reeves Theater, is a perfect choice for dinner before catching a show. The menu features thoughtfully prepared dishes, seasonal flavors, and a cozy setting that pairs perfectly with an evening of live music or performance.

Another downtown favorite, Southern on Main, serves Southern fare with artistic flair in a lively, welcoming space. With outdoor seating, an upstairs wine bar, and both lunch and dinner options, it’s an easy pick for a relaxed yet refined meal.

Casual & Fun

Angry Troll Brewing is our only local brewery and they serve wood-fired pizza, wings, and pub fare in a restored downtown warehouse. Harry’s Place, an Elkin staple, serves the best crab legs and steak around. And stop by our new outdoor beer garden, RailYard, while you wait for your table. For Mexican cuisine, The Mango Peel on N Bridge Street serves authentic Mexican dishes and has a small grocery store as well. From Prime Thai to Crazy Pig BBQ, we have something for every taste bud!

Cocktails & Dessert

Fruition and Ember’s are downtown Elkin’s cocktail bars, each with their own fun personality and atmosphere. And for a sweet tooth, you’ll find local, handmade ice cream at Creamy Dayz in the River & Trails Emporium.

Lunch Options

If you’re looking to sit, Hunt's Homestyle, Southern on Main, and Harry’s Place have lunchtime staples. Hun'ts and Southern are to perfect options for breakfast and brunch. Donna Kaye’s Sandwich Shoppe and Barking Coyote Kitchen are great for grab-n-go, deli counter-style lunches, and Barking Coyote even offers take-n-bake options if you’re wanting to eat in without the hassle.
